Ingredients You'll Need

For Gulab Jamun Balls:

  • • 1 cup milk powder
  • • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • • 2 tbsp ghee (melted)
  • • 3-4 tbsp milk
  • • Oil for deep frying

  • • 1.5 cups sugar
  • • 1.5 cups water
  • • 4-5 cardamom pods
  • • 1 tsp rose water

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Sugar Syrup

In a large pan, combine sugar and water. Bring to a boil and let it simmer for 5-7 minutes until it reaches a one-string consistency. Add cardamom pods, rose water, and saffron. Keep warm.

Step 2: Make the Dough

In a mixing bowl, combine milk powder, flour, and baking soda. Add melted ghee and mix well. Gradually add milk to form a soft, smooth dough. Cover and let it rest for 10 minutes.

Step 3: Shape the Gulab Jamuns

Divide the dough into small portions and roll them into smooth balls. Make sure there are no cracks. The balls should be about the size of a small lemon.

Step 4: Fry the Balls

Heat oil in a deep pan on medium heat. Gently slide the balls into the oil and fry until golden brown, turning occasionally. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Step 5: Soak in Syrup

While the balls are still warm, add them to the warm sugar syrup. Let them soak for at least 2-3 hours before serving. The longer they soak, the better they taste!

Don't over-knead the dough as it can make the gulab jamuns hard. Also, ensure the oil is not too hot, or the balls will brown too quickly on the outside while remaining raw inside.
